      <abstract>
        <p>Diseases due to consumption of contaminated food are a common problem in worldwide. Information about food hygiene practices in plantation sector in Sri Lanka is insufficient. This study was designed to identify hygiene practices for the establishment of a Surveillance system in Sri Lanka. Knowledge of food hygiene practices among food handlers in plantation sector is very poor. Community - Health education programs, promoting better food hygiene and improved sanitary conditions should be considered, to plan a food hygiene Surveillance system.</p>
